Very good port call

In Hilo we did an excursion to Volcanos National Park. Hilo is very rainy and the day we went it did rain. That said it only sprinkled on us. Heavy rain during the rides from spot to spot with breaks while we were off the bus. The active eruption was something we both were inspired by.

Good to know the bus offered free travel to tourists.

Did not like Hilo. Wet windy overcast and rundown. Did not like the town mucky and nothing there. We ended up at this port for 2 days because we did not get to go to Maui. due to bad weather.

Can't blame the weather, but it rained the entire day with minor breaks. It really puts a damper on hiking plans, so we didn't get much done that day.

Enjoyed the walk around Hilo -- was able to ride the public bus (it's free!) and experience the local culture. Interesting farmers market.

Jill was an excellent guide. She provided quality information at each stop. We learned so much about the volcanoes and lava.
