Marksburg castle was interesting

Went on a tour of the fort above the city. The highlight was the 3 minute ride down to. They put us on the wrong bus to start with and it went downhill from there. An ‘actor’ presented some information. Mostly it was nonsense. Very little history given. I must say that the boat ride down the Rhine was beautiful. One of the real highlights of the trip.

This is where the cruise "itinerary" on Viking's website gets a little blurry... "Proceed along the Rhine, disembarking for a walking tour of Koblenz". Where we disembarked wasn't anywhere near where you could take a walking tour. Don't remember exactly where we docked, but it was across the river and a bus ride from town. This is where I think I start to understand Vikings 'included' tour a each stop. Because there are now so many boats on the Rhine, very few get the prime downtown parking spots. So, advertise a town, park slightly (or far) away and bus in. Good business model but not so good for the traveler likes to do a more independent type of city visit.

The Marksburg castle tour was wonderful. There are lots of stairs and mildly strenuous.

We chose the walking excursion because the included tour of the Marksburg Castle was shown as "demanding." Cute town, but not much to see or do.

I went on optional tour to Eitz castle. It was very interesting and was in a picturesque valley.

Great walking tour!

Amazing city and the included Viking tour was excellent!
