a favorite for sure-take the gondola ride to the top and spend hours at Monte Palace gardens and enjoy

We took a shuttle from the ship into town. We did the hop on hop off bus first, which was very nice and affordable, since the shops weren't opened yet. Then we walked around and did some shopping.

The topology of the city made for some spectacular views. The wine tasting was a bit short.

Nice port and accessible right from the ship. Sun Princess should have provided transport to the center of town.

We've been there several times on past cruises so we did not take an excursion

I love Madeira but we booked a tour to include a sled ride. Unfortunately we were there on Sunday, and the sled don't run on Sunday. There was a note online that the sleds didn't run on Sunday mornings, so we thought they would just put us on the sled in the afternoon. We've done the sled in past years and had told our travel companions all about it, then we couldn't do it. Princess did refund $21pp, but if they had told us the sleds would not be available we would have booked a different tour!

Consider outside tours of whole island

Very mountainous . Be ready to walk and climb mountains. I wish we went to Lisbon. Was looking forward to singing Adieu Lisbonne from Gloria Lasso

We took the hop on, hop off bus on our own and had a good experience with it. The walk from the ship to the bus stop was quite reasonable (the first time that was the case on this entire cruise).

Been there many times just stayed in town was a Sunday lots closed
