On cruisedays there is a shuttlebus from Queensferry Hawes Pier to the heart of Edinburgh (St Andrew Square). Every 20 minutes. Costs 9 pounds (roundtrip). You need a credit card per person!

Train strike meant we could not get into Edinburgh by train, the queue for buses was very long so walked round South Queensferry.

Because it was a tender port, we stayed with a Princess cruise shore excursion, not wanting to miss the tender. Loved the port, not so much the excursion. When on their own excursions, it is easier to get a tender ticket. We wanted to go to St. Andrews, and as many people have said, we could have used a little bit longer time to enjoy this wonderful area. We were given 1 hour 45 minutes in St. Andrews, with just enough time to use the toilet, take a could quick photos of the golf course, and buy souvenirs at nearby shops. The ride each way is an hour, and the last tender had to wait for our bus as we were the last people back.

I loved the charm of Edinburgh and St. Andrews. We went to the Tattoo and St. Andrews and both were wonderful. Of course, the Tattoo was the trip high point…absolutely amazing! But I loved the charm of Edinburgh so much that I really want to go back another time. And I’ve been there before, but there’s so much to see.

We took the bus and went to see the Royal Yacht Britannia which was well worth a visit.
