If going to Maho beach, check to see how many ships are in port. The "Beach" is very tiny. We were the only ship in port (but a very large one) and it was pretty crowded. Was an experience that I think all should experience. Leave plenty of time for the cab back to the ship though, traffic can be rough after the Air France plane, as everyone is leaving at once.

I've done Magens bay, which has beautiful sand and calm waters, as well as Maho beach which had rougher waters, smaller beach, but great enjoyment with watching the planes land. Got a bucket of beer and had a blast! The shops are nice, and straw market was enjoyable.

IF going to Maho Beach - and getting in the water - LADIES - wear clothing / swim suit that won't get ripped off in the waves when they crash ashore. GENTLEMEN - take off hats / sunglasses or you could lose them in the same waves! Overall awesome experience with the planes landing overhead!

We had a great time on the Amazing Race Excursion!! Interesting stops and clues and the tour company made it really fun!!! Make sure you bring your walking shoes as it is hot and there is a lot of walking! Make sure you get one of the water bottles they give you and keep hydrated!! Fun way to see the town and learn about the island!! Make sure you are careful as streets are uneven from hurricane damage!! I would recommend this tour as you also have unlimited access to water taxi for the day. Great shopping and walking streets afterwards!

Had an amazing time on this tour. Our tour driver Wellington was very informative and funny. At times it took us a while to figure out when it’s a joke or not. Like needing a passport to cross over to the French side and that who didn’t we had to go back and this he mention almost 10 minutes into the ride (joke) we didn’t need it. Dwl 🤣 He told us why the 2 spelling - St Maarten and St Martin. The Dutch side being the party side and point out Irma damage to the island as we move from the Dutch through the French side. So much damage from homes, business, cars and boats. We made several stops for great views and photo opportunity. We stop at a iguana stop and was able to feed them and take photos. Lots of goat and sheeps roaming the hillside. Stops for lunch and shopping. At Maho Beach we were able to see the planes taking off at the airport and landing. Beautiful beach but once again rough water crashing waves. We then made another stop over to Kim Sha beach at Simpson Bay beautiful but crashing waves. Enjoyed the shore line. The beach stops was quick and short but didn’t mind too much because of the rough water but was able to walk the shoreline and got photos.

Excellent for overall shopping, finding a beach chair and relaxing and swimming on the beach, all in one. Personal favorite is finding a bar and grill with a personal server who will bring drinks, menu and food right to your chair on the beach. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing, be sure to bring a towel with you.

How far is the walk from the pier to the beaches? Thanks. I have never been to St Maarten before and I'm going solo this cruise. Any information would be appreciated.
