When we arrived at the port there was a shuttle service that was very short (2 minute drive) from the ship to the port area. The taxi drivers were out in force and were pushing taxi rides mainly to the beach. It was Sunday and the taxi drivers told us the main section of the city was closed due to Sunday services in the country. It was cloudy and rainy so we decided to stay at the port area which has a number of shops and restaurants.

Basian beaches are the best! Long leisurely beach at this port. Was nice and hot. Water is so crystal clean and pretty. Stopped for a quick bender bite to eat as well. We will return...again

This was our only 'non-scheduled' day - no tour booked up front. Instead we opted to get a cab driver to take us around the island...Harrison caves, top of the mountain bar, old church, and ending at a fantastic beach. He drove 4 of us around for 5 hours for $250 U.S. Had we taken the booked tours we would have paid more and gotten quite a bit less value.
