Why are advertise cruise prices not available?

Good morning everyone. I just excitedly got on the phone to call MSC to book 2 rooms on the 14 day cruise out of Barcelona for November 18. I was sent an email by MSC with an advertised price just this morning, I thought the price was great and was proceeding to book 2 rooms. My first call had the customer service. Tell me that taxes for port and government were added on top and that the rooms at the price advertised were no longer available. When I asked to speak to a customer service I was hung up on. I proceeded to phone back what happened during the first call and then was told that they have nobody they could send it onto but rather I would have to send an email. I'm feeling that , the advertising is false. As of July 1 With the change of law, Cruise lines have been instructed to advertise with port and government taxes included, so all fees are fully disclosed upfront in advertise prices.

What has been your experience with phoning about cruise pricing and how have you resolved it?

good point - it rarely get better after they your money

Just as well. From everything I've read, MSC is not what you would call "customer focused". The general concensus is that because it's a European corporation it follows a European business model, which does not rank "bend over backwards" customer service as high as American corporations.

I almost booked a cruise with them a few years ago, but when I phoned with a couple questions I encountered an experience similar to yours. I surmised that if they would treat me that way before they got my money, how much worse would it be after they got it?

Thanks for clarification - it would lead me to only look at cruise lines that have adopted the new transparent pricing policy. It feels like misleading /De

/deceitful when advertising at one price then when one goes to book - the deals are not available.

That law is for California only, and I believe it's only for sailings out of that state.

Here is a bit more information from an article in NerdWallet. https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/travel/cruise-fees

From the article: Though the law is specific to California, many major cruise operators have recently adopted transparent pricing models that all U.S. shoppers can see. For example, as of July 1, Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America began including all mandatory taxes, fees and port expenses in their U.S. price displays.

I don't see MSC on that list.
