Thanks Jusme for your ideas about a Smartphone. I realise there are a number of uses, but my basic Nokia sends an odd text and I may just make a call every week. Cost is not really the problem, it is simply that I have no use or desire for using a phone for anything else.

If you do not have a smart phone or a tablet then you miss out on a great app. Once you get used to having a smart phone you will not go back to the basic phone. I use my phone for all kinds of things when traveling, maps, GPS, suggestion of where is good to eat, what is good to see, E-mail and internet access, photo's and taking a video.

You can find free Wi-Fi in every port at a Cafe. I have a VOIP on my phone that I can call over the wi-fi for only a couple cents a min when I needed to check with family back home (much better then $2.50 a min off the ship cell tower or international rates)

If you do not have a smart phone then you can not do these things, but you save a few dollars a month.

The app can also be used with a tablet.

If you don't have one of those either, then many of the functions of the app can be found in the above menu bar under "More" / "Download Shipmate App". It takes you to a website that has most of the functions. Unfortunately, the roll call can only be found within the app itself

What if you don't have a smart phone? I certainly don't.

Unfortunately, my next cruise isn't until August.

I suggest the Roll call on "Ship Mate" app for your smart phone. On the app you can see who else is going on that cruise, talk to them, see non cruise line excursions in ports and a list of good things to do in ports left by past travelers.
