Atlas Ocean Voyages has officially welcomed World Voyager into its fleet. To celebrate, the expedition operator hosted a naming ceremony event in Ushuaia, Argentina for the 198-guest expedition yacht.

The naming ceremony was presided over by Atlas Ocean Voyages President and CEO James A. Rodriguez, who introduced World Voyager’s officers and crew (including Captain Terje Ulset) and recognized local Argentine dignitaries onboard, including Vice Governor Mónica Urquiza.

“Today marks another important milestone for Atlas Ocean Voyages as our fleet grows to a trio, delivering year-round polar, epicurean and cultural expedition experiences across the globe,” said Rodriguez. “Thank you to Preet for inspiring all of us and the entire Atlas team that continues to execute our vision of year-round expedition yachting.”

The ceremony was highlighted by a traditional maritime christening of a breaking bottle of champagne by Godmother British physiotherapist and British Army Captain Harpreet "Preet" Kaur Chandi MBE. Following, all raised a glass to toast as the ship embarked on its maiden 9-night Antarctica voyage.

“I’m so excited for you as you begin your first Antarctic Expedition,” shared World Voyager Godmother Harpreet “Preet” Chandi. “My journey and now your experience is all about pushing boundaries and experiencing an adventure that will leave you changed.”

Ship Godmother Preet Chandi gained recognition in 2022 as she completed a remarkable solo expedition across Antarctica to the South Pole. In January 2023, she recorded the longest-ever solo and unsupported polar expedition by a woman of color. Her achievements have gained her an appointment as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2022 Birthday Honors.

World Voyager is the third vessel in the line’s expedition fleet and the sister ship to Atlas Ocean Voyages’ World Traveller and World Navigator. The vessel will now begin its inaugural deployment for the 2023/24 Antarctica season, offering 9- to 14-night voyages from Ushuaia, Argentina.

The vessel is among the most advanced and safest expedition yachts on the market. World Voyager is Polar Category C- and Ice Class 1B-certified, with two Rolls Royce 9,000 kw hybrid diesel/electric engines, and 3D forward-looking sonar technology to detect underwater hazards. This system allows World Voyager to navigate ice fields, harbors, and rivers for access to city centers and other rarely visited destinations.

World Voyager has been elegantly designed in a Scandinavian style, with light ash wood tones and contrasts of marble accents throughout public areas and staterooms. All accommodations have five-star comfort and conveniences, with maritime design inspiration complemented by contemporary furnishings and classic artwork.

The ship’s main dining room, named ‘Madeira’, is an homage to the crystal-clear waters, and centuries-old traditions of the Portuguese archipelago. World Voyager’s lecture hall is named Amerigo Vespucci Auditorium, after the famed explorer. This space offers enrichment discussions by Expedition Team members. Other onboard amenities include the 7-Aft Grill, Atlas Lounge, observation Lounge, The Dome observation lounge, and Paula’s Pantry.

Expeditions with Atlas Ocean Voyages include a pre-cruise hotel stay in Buenos Aires as well as roundtrip charter air service from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia. All expeditions include a cultural immersion tour, zodiac experiences, landings ashore, and all onboard amenities. Adventurous guests can enjoy optional kayaking and camping experiences.
