Norwegian Encore Godmother Announced
Norwegian Cruise Line has announced that the godmother of their new ship debuting in November, Norwegian Encore, will be GRAMMY Award-winning artist Kelly Clarkson.
The cruise line’s president and CEO Andy Stuart appeared on Clarkson’s new daytime show “The Kelly Clarkson Show” to invite her to join the Norwegian family as godmother to the mega-ship. As Stuart shared on the show, Clarkson came highly recommended for the position by radio personality Elvis Duran, who is godfather to Norwegian Bliss.
Naming a ship godparent is a longstanding maritime tradition in the cruise industry. The honor is bestowed to a person who serves as the central figure in the ship’s christening ceremony. Norwegian Encore’s christening will take place in November, and Clarkson will remain her godmother for the vessel’s entire life.
To celebrate her new title as godmother, Clarkson and Norwegian Cruise Line recognized and awarded 20 deserving music educators with a free cruise on the show. Kelly surprised the teachers, who were on a back-lot tram tour, and invited them to be in the audience of her show. At the taping, the teachers were joined in the audience by people who they had inspired over the years. Clarkson then used her new “godmother powers” to surprise them by gifting them all a cruise on Norwegian Encore.
Encore will cruise to the Caribbean from Miami starting in November, before heading to New York City in April to operate 5-7 night cruises to Bermuda. The ship features the largest racetrack at sea, a virtual reality area called the Galaxy Pavilion, a laser tag arena, and much more.
