A fire broke out this afternoon on the MSC Lirica while the vessel was docked at the Port of Corfu in Greece.
The fire started on the right starboard side in the middle of the ship. By 4:30 PM local time the fire was reported as being under control and authorities are on the scene. At this time, no injuries have been reported.
MSC Lirica sailings are currently on hold by MSC Cruises. The ship has been docked in Greece since March 1, 2021. No passengers are currently onboard the vessel.
"A fire on board MSC Lirica, which seems to be originated in an empty lifeboat on deck 6, was reported to the emergency services earlier today in Corfu where the ship is currently in warm layup," said a MSC spokesperson in an official statement to USA TODAY.
