Norwegian Cruise Line held the keel laying ceremony for Norwegian Encore today at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

During the construction milestone ceremony, the line also revealed some details about the entertainment that will be available on the ship. Following the maritime tradition of embedding a coin in the ship’s keel blocks, attendees were treated to an unexpected show.

Five performers disguised as shipyard workers — wearing red-heeled boots — did a surprise performance from “Kinky Boots,” the Tony Award-winning musical which will be Encore’s headlining act. The lead character Lola and her four dancing angels sang “Land of Lola,” one of the 16 original songs from the production by Cyndi Lauper.

In addition to Kinky Boots, onboard entertainment will include “The Choir of Man,” which recently debuted on Norwegian Escape, and “Happy Hour Prohibition: The Musical” - an interactive cocktails and theater show, set on the eve of Prohibition. A passenger favorite, The Cavern Club will transport audiences back to the legendary Liverpool club with live performances by a Beatles cover band.

The 169,000 gross ton Norwegian Encore will also house a two-level race track, an open-air laser tag arena similar to the one on Norwegian Bliss, The Galaxy Pavilion offering virtual reality games, and an extensive water park.

Encore will hold approximately 4,000 guests and operate 7-day eastern Caribbean cruises from Miami starting November 17, 2019. In summer 2020, she will begin cruising to Bermuda out of New York City.
