Disney Cruise Line today shared the preliminary details about its next cruise ship, Disney Destiny. The vessel reached an important construction milestone of a keel laying ceremony where it is being built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

This maritime tradition is to mark good luck on the ship and to signify Disney Destiny has reached its next stage of construction.

Disney Destiny is the sister vessel to the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure. The new ship’s theme is “Heroes and Villains”. As is tradition with all Disney Cruise Line ships, Disney Destiny will draw on the legacy of beloved Disney stories, characters, and theme park attractions.

To create the ship’s design, Disney Cruise Line and the Walt Disney Imagineering teams used the inspiration of the dynamic duality of every Disney story, where opposing forces of light and dark drive characters to rise to their purpose. Guests sailing on the new ship will encounter heroes and villains from stories such as “The Lion King,” “Hercules” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians”.

“The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Cruise Line. “As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising as we offer even more ways for families to experience Disney magic and world-class service at sea.”

Disney Destiny is scheduled for delivery in 2025 as part of a multi-year expansion of the Disney Cruise Line fleet that includes the Disney Wish (which debuted in 2022), Disney Treasure (debuting in 2025), and the Disney Adventure that will homeport in Singapore (debuting 2025), and the brand’s new island destination in The Bahamas, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
