After an argument with her husband, a 43 year-old Irish woman jumped into the water from deck 7 aboard MSC Seaview. The incident happened Monday, June 17 around 10 pm while the ship was docked in Genoa, Italy.

According to Italian media, the passenger was drinking at the time. The fall to the water was about 65 feet. A crew member on the ship saw the woman jumping, and immediately rushed to a Man Overboard Boat to rescue her before rescue personnel and the harbor master’s officers arrived. The woman was taken to the Galliera hospital where she was treated and said to be in stable condition. Last night, MSC Seaview departed Genoa with only a slight delay after the Italian police launched an investigation into the incident.

Today, June 18, a small ceremony was organized onboard by other crew members to recognize the Samoan crew member whose quick actions saved the woman.
