Hurricane Beryl is making its way through the Caribbean, causing many cruise lines to alter scheduled itineraries.

As of July 2, Beryl is a dangerous Category 5 hurricane with a projected path of passing near Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. The National Hurricane Center has named the storm the earliest Category 5 hurricane on record.

Carnival Cruise Line has announced it will change the following itineraries due to Hurricane Beryl:

  • Carnival Horizon will cancel its visit to Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands on Wednesday, July 3.
  • Carnival Liberty will visit Cozumel, Mexico on Tuesday, July 2 instead of Friday, July 5, which will now be a day at sea.

Carnival’s Fleet Operations Center shared the following statement, “The safety of our guests and crew is paramount, and we are continuing to monitor forecasts and factor in guidance from the National Hurricane Center, U.S. Coast Guard, and the local port authorities to provide timely updates to our guests as more information becomes available.”

Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Fantasy was originally slated to visit Falmouth, Jamaica on July 4. The cruise line has canceled this stop and will now spend an extra day at sea

Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas canceled planned calls to Roatan and Costa Maya. It will spend July 3 in Cozumel. Harmony of the Seas moved up calls to Costa Maya and Cozumel and will now spend a day at sea on July 4.

Earlier this week, the June 29 sailing on Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas announced it would be sailing a Western Caribbean itinerary over its previously scheduled Eastern Caribbean voyage. It canceled calls in Charlotte Amalie and Phillipsburg and replaced these ports with visits to Cozumel and Costa Maya.

Similarly, Norwegian Cruise Line’s June 30 sailing on Norwegian Jade sailed a Western Caribbean voyage over its scheduled Southern Caribbean itinerary. Stops in San Juan, Tortola, and Puerto Plata were canceled and replaced with Falmouth, George Town, and Cozumel. Norwegian Breakaway's June 30 cruise will now sail and Eastern Caribbean route as opposed to its planned Western Caribbean voyage. It has swapped port visits to Mexico, Honduras, and Belize for visits to The Bahamas, St. Thomas, Tortola, and the Dominican Republic.

Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Beyond modified its itinerary to call on Aruba instead of Bonaire on July 2, and will now call on Bonaire for July 4.

We will continue to monitor this story and share any updates from the cruise lines as they become available. If you have any questions regarding future itinerary impacts please contact your cruise line directly or your travel advisor.
