Celebrity Cruises Officially Christens Celebrity Ascent
Celebrity Cruises has officially welcomed the newest ship into its fleet. The cruise line hosted a christening ceremony for Celebrity Ascent at the ship’s new home at Port Everglades.
On hand to celebrate were co-Godmothers, Captain Sandy Yawn, star of Bravo TV's ‘Below Deck’, and her sister Michelle Dunham, Founder of the Jacksonville School for Autism. The two officially named the ship in maritime tradition by the breaking of a champagne bottle on the ship’s hull. They were joined by brothers Captain Dimitrios Kafetzis and Captain Tasos Kafetzis, the Co-Captains of Celebrity Ascent (a first for the line and the industry).
Celebrity Ascent boasts a design by the world's leading architects and interior designers. The vessel boasts eateries crafted in partnership with Michelin-starred chefs, expansive onboard entertainment, and more.
“With each new ship, our ambition is to debut the ultimate vacation experience and Celebrity Ascent achieves this by raising the bar for premium travel,” said Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group. “Her elevated design and new onboard experiences set her apart from competitors and serve as a new benchmark for the travel industry.”
The ship will spend its inaugural season sailing the Caribbean from Port Everglades, offering a variety of alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises to late April. Come then the ship will head to the Mediterranean for sailings from Barcelona and Rome for the summer 2024 season.

Celebrity Ascent is a member of the line’s Excel Series of vessels and is the sister ship to Celebrity Beyond, which debuted last year. Distinctive ship features and experiences include:
- The Retreat, an exclusive resort-within-a-resort area for suite guests. The area is highlighted by a two-story sundeck.
- An expanded Rooftop Garden and Resort Deck featuring cantilevered float pools.
- A multi-level, multi-terraced Sunset Bar at the ship's aft.
- An expanded onboard entertainment program featuring a transformative nightlife experience on the Resort Deck and six new live productions. The ship also includes a redesigned casino floor and brand-new games.
- A new outdoor dining terrace at Blu for Aqua Class guests.
- An exclusive culinary experience at Le Voyage by famed Chef Daniel Boulud.
