Cats Now Allowed to Cruise

Purrgin Voyages announced today that their ships will now offer a “cat lounge” where passengers can go and spend time with friendly felines while onboard. Deemed a quiet area on the ship, the new cat lounge will allow passengers a place to relax and interact with cats, especially those missing their furbabies left at home. The space will offer floor-to-ceiling glass windows, tall scratching posts, and a variety of lounging areas for passengers and cats alike. Cats (and guests) can watch the waves roll by as they soak up the sun and sail from port to port.   

When asked about the new cat lounge area, Felix Garfield, spokesperson for Purrrgin Voyages, advised the research showed that most cruisers missed their fur babies at home, and having access to a furry friend while on vacation increased mood, elevated serotonin levels as well as reduced blood pressure and anxiety. He further stated that the line would add cat-themed activities such as cat yoga, cat naps, cat and mouse games, cat nip-making class, and cat knitting classes. Napping pods will be available in the new cat lounge for the purrfect cat-nap at sea. Guests can reserve a pod and enjoy a quick snooze with a new kitty friend. 

All cat hair shed will be collected and recycled into yarn for the cat knitting class. Classes will be held for beginners and seasoned knitting professionals using 100% recycled fur into yarn to make sweaters, gloves, and other clothing items which will be donated to local charities. The kitties will truly be doing their part to be eco-friendly and charitable.

Other onboard programming changes will be a dedicated TV channel running cat-themed movies and shows 24-hrs a day, such as Aristocrats, CATS, Lion King, Puss n Boots, Tom & Jerry, and The Cat in the Hat. 

Mr. Garfield further stated that each week, one special kitty will be chosen to make its home on the bridge and hold the title of ‘Cat-tain’ for the sailing. This special feline will dawn a special sash or captain's hat (their choice), so they can strut their stuff with a little extra pawpose during their reign.

Before the cat's debut on the high seas, the ships will go through a short dry dock to add the specialty lounge area and catacombs, a tunnel system throughout the ship to allow cats to visit staterooms. The catacomb system will have a cat door installed in each room, so guests can leave the cat flap open for an in-cabin visit from a friendly feline. 

Cat treats and scratching posts are available for delivery by room service. Some special menu items focused on felines, and their human friends can also be delivered for in-cabin dining. Menu items include a fish of the day, liver pâté, sardines on toast, and other delicacies. 

The cat lounge will include a bar serving the cattail of the day. One of the healthy options includes wheatgrass and classic drinks such as the Mancattan, Whisker Sour, Tom and Jerry Collins, Moscow Cat, Meowgaritas, and the Pink Pussy Cat, to name a few. No matter what you order, it’s sure to be purrrfect! 

For the late-night crowd, DJ Meow Mix will be spinning top hits for a late-night cat-themed evening of dancing. Enjoy top hits such as My Cat's Name Is Maceo by Jane’s Addiction, Stray Cat Strut by the Stray Cats, Cool Cat by Queen, Cat People by David Bowie, What’s New Pussy Cat by Tom Jones and many more furbulous hits. Keep an eye out and there may even be a special appearance by Kitty Purry, Cat Benetar, Alanis Meowisette, Christina Aguill-hair-a, Paws McCartney, or Meowly Cyrus. The late night event will be hosted by drag queen RuPaw. 

All cats onboard will be available for adoption, and the fees can be paid using onboard credit, casino winnings, cash, or credit card. All adoptees are sent home with the purrfect starter pack, including a hammock for climbing or relaxing, bowls, a souvenir t-shirt, and a first-furmate loyalty number. 

While some cruise lines offer a President’s Cruise and other theme cruises periodically, the cat lounge will be a permanent feature across the fleet. Don’t be surprised if there is a furtastic kitty reunion cruise planned in the future.
