Carnival Cruise Ship to Move to Mobile, Alabama
Carnival Cruise Line has announced that in January 2022, Carnival Fascination will move from its current homeport in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Mobile, Alabama.
The ship will replace Carnival Fantasy and its current itineraries there, which are four and five-day cruises to the western Caribbean. Bookings for Fascination’s new itineraries from Mobile will open today. Those currently booked on either ship through January 2022 will not be affected; voyages will operate as planned.
“Carnival Fascination will bring some exciting new features to the Mobile market, including a greater variety of balcony accommodations, a Bonsai Sushi Express venue, the cocktail pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar and a Cherry On Top sweets shop,” said Fred Stein, Carnival’s vice president of revenue planning and deployment. “We have worked with the Mobile community over the last several years to successfully build demand and create this opportunity for a newer ship to enter the market.”

In the near future, Carnival will announce their plans for Carnival Fantasy. The line also is evaluating options to return to San Juan after 2022, with a ship that can resume similar itineraries to Carnival Fascination, which is currently sailing in the eastern and southern Caribbean.

Technically, yes... the Fantasy was built in 1990 and the Fascination in 1994. Same class, same size, same everything really except a few additional welded-on balconies. Sadly, I can’t really view this as some great improvement and “newer” ship. I can only hope Fascination is not as run down and worn out as Fantasy. Mobile is very easy for us to get to, and we like cruising from there. After 5 trips on the Fantasy, though, each time with more things broken, we said, “Enough.”

So this story needs to be updated! Overcome by events... latest word is that Fascination will be mothballed and Sensation moved to Mobile.
