8 Things for Kids & Teens on Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity offers a range of programming and spaces for kids and teens - Photo by Celebrity Cruises

When you think about Celebrity Cruises, the first thing that comes to mind is likely not a cruise line geared toward kids and teens. While this is true, Celebrity actually has a lot to offer for younger cruisers. With dedicated spaces and a variety of fun, entertaining activities, Celebrity offers a lot for families traveling with children ages 3-17. Here are eight things that kids and teens can enjoy on a Celebrity cruise.

1. Dedicated Spaces

All Celebrity ships (minus Celebrity Xpedition, Xploration, and Flora) have a youth program with dedicated spaces for kids and teens. The Camp at Sea program has different activities for young cruisers ages 3-17, which are held both in the club and around the ship.

Children 3-12 have a Camp at Sea space to play and participate in fun activities. While kids share this common space, they have organized activities divided by age group. Those 3-5 years old are called ‘Shipmates’ and do activities like art projects and singalongs. Cruisers ages 6-9 are called ‘Cadets,’ and activities include movie nights, campouts, games at The Lawn Club, and learning sailing basics, including navigation, time, weather patterns, and more. 10-12-year-olds are designated as ‘Captains’ and can participate in activities like scavenger hunts, pizza making, and sports and gaming tournaments.

Teens 13-17 have their own Teen Club filled with plenty of space for lounging and socializing. Teen activities in the club and around the ship include sports competitions, Xbox tournaments, culinary classes, and silent disco parties.

Though toddlers under three years old can’t be dropped off at a youth club on Celebrity, they can participate in a fun guided playtime session with their parents called ‘Toddler Time’. In these activities, little sailors can play with other kids and explore toys and interactive features that Camp at Sea offers.

2. Themed Parties

Parties are one of the best parts of the onboard experience during a cruise! Kids and teens are not forgotten when it comes to fun-themed events throughout the voyage. Depending on the ship or voyage, some special parties that Celebrity throws for kids and teens might include campouts, silent discos, and holiday-specific activities during certain times of the year.

3. Sports & Games

Kids and teens alike can participate in different sports competitions and tournaments with others in their age group throughout the voyage. These activities can include competitions on the sports courts, mini-golf course, and at The Lawn Club, or activities in other spots around the ship. Young cruisers can also participate in video game tournaments and play classic camp games with a modern twist in their Camp at Sea space.

4. Spa & Health Programs for Teens

Most services and the SEA Thermal Suites are available to adults only, however, Celebrity has a specialty spa treatment menu for cruisers ages 13-17. Services include facials, manicures and pedicures, hair treatments, Megawhite Express laser teeth whitening, and mother/daughter or father/son massages. In the fitness center, teens can take lessons on improving their gait and posture or receive a customized workout routine from one of the ship’s fitness trainers. Something to remember: an adult must accompany all teens during their spa treatments or visits to the health center.

5. STEM Activities

Through a special partnership with the Frost Museum of Science in Miami, Celebrity Cruises offers a variety of STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) activities for kids on Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Edge. The line’s STEM at Sea program encompasses exclusive events and activities geared toward teaching kids about topics like marine wildlife, ecological conservation, and nautical exploration.

6. Arts & Crafts

Budding young artists will find lots of fun in Celebrity’s immersive Creation Station program. Kids can express themselves through painting, making collages, and more. During these art activities, kids will create their own masterpieces and custom souvenirs that will remind them of their vacation long after they’ve returned home.

7. Kid-Friendly Dining & Cooking Classes

On Celebrity, kid’s menus are available both in the main dining room and on the room service menu in the stateroom. They feature kid-approved dishes such as spaghetti, burgers, pizza, steak, mac and cheese, and soup. Desserts include dark chocolate cake, cookies, cheesecake, tropical fruit, and a PB&J sundae.

Kids interested in food beyond eating might enjoy one of Celebrity’s kid culinary classes, like cupcake decoration during Cupcake Creations and pizza making during Pizza Masters. The best part? They do all this behind the scenes in one of the ship’s galleys and are taught by a member of the line’s culinary staff.

8. Outdoor Movies

On different nights throughout the voyage, Celebrity plays movies on one of the outer decks, usually on the jumbo main pool deck screen, at the Lawn Club, or at the Rooftop Terrace. Genres vary, but many are family movies perfect for all ages — kids and teens included.

BONUS - Autism-Friendly Ships

Celebrity Cruises offers various services and activities for passengers of all ages, including kids and teens with autism. The line has achieved its  Autism Friendly Cruise Line status. Learn more from Celebrity here
