Good, but not Great.
Celebrity Silhouette
Sail date: January 25, 2015
Enjoyed the cruise by and large, good ports of call, very nice cabin (7th deck w/balcony), great cabin service (once you asked for ice to be delivered as advertised). Second cruise with Celebrity, went last year about the same time on the Reflection; must say that Reflection was by far the better ship. Being former US Navy I truly believe it all starts with the ship's captain and filters down, so maybe that is the difference. Last year's crew seemed much happier and gave better service, and the main dining room food and service on the Reflection was by far better than on this ship. Would say that is our main complaint- food in main dining was mediocre at best, and the service seemed disorganized and chaotic--overly 'busy' to the point that we felt distracted and uncomfortable by the constant rushing of the wait staff (who seemed always in a hurry, but not going anywhere). Also a bit annoyed by the attitude of the bar tenders who seemed to have an attitude...never smiling or a kind word---should not have the 15% gratuity automatically applied, maybe since it is they feel they can have an attitude; on the other hand, the roving bar tenders and waiters had a completely different demeanor, friendly, seemed happy to be there, and more than happy to take your order (hard to figure the difference), and we were more than happy to add to their automatic gratuity as we felt they earned it. Entertainment wise, some of the evening shows were good (one or two), but most were barely OK, same performers just with different costumes and a bit different songs. If we had known how they were ahead of time I must say we would not have gone to them. Guess it really annoyed me that the cruise director repeatedly had to tell us how good the performers were and to "put your hands together" after their performances; if the show is good, the audience will automatically applaud loudly and show their appreciation!!
Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)
Nice and relaxing.
Bus tour was very good, would avoid local shops and Margaritaville.
Part of excursion was cancelled; way too long to get ashore via tenders.
Celebrity Silhouette
Jamaica at Leisure bus tour was very good; avoid the tourist traps in downtown Montego Bay, locals were rude and very 'pushy'.
