32 years old, going on my first cruise for me and my wife's 10th year wedding anniversary. She still has no idea and I'm very excited!

Carnival Splendor

April 2019 - 7 Night Mexican Riviera (Los Angeles Roundtrip) Cruise on Carnival Splendor

Splendor was a nice ship! Everyone knows that it's dated, so the dry dock will do it some good. There was only one big drawback in my opinion, that was the smell on the first deck, from time to time there would be this overpowering smell of gas. Luckily we had tons of air freshener and we explored the ship a lot. The food at the Steakhouse was very good, having been to some of the "top steakhouses" it ranked well. Buffet food is buffet food. Tandor and the Mongolian wok was good, so was the bbq and deli. Wasn't blown away by their pizza but hey it's 24 hours. Shows were good, the only thing (could've been the shows we attended) but it felt like the same songs were being performed. Crew was exceptional (except for one waiter in the main dining room one night). Our room steward Wason was second to none, kept the ice and towels flowing lol. The casino wasn't as smoky as the cruise we have been on, and that was a big plus. The comedy shows were hilarious, every single adult show was different and fresh, the comedians weren't dicks, they were friendly off stage and funny on stage. Overall we had a great time, however we either won't get off in Mazatlan or we will do something different than what we ended up doing.

Cruise tips

Ensenada, Mexico

The area itself was very impoverished, the people were very friendly. Took the tour where there was margaritas, wine tasting and shopping. Our tour guide was great and gave superb advice. Drank several margaritas, tasted every wine and when I went shopping, although the vendors were very persistent, it reminded me of making deals at the swap meet, so it was fine by me. All in all a solid excursion.
