April 2015 - 7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip) Cruise on Norwegian Getaway
NCL is Improving
Norwegian Getaway
Sail date: April 11, 2015
Great ship, but there were a few negatives. The bunks were like sleeping on a basketball court, the food was average at best and the cruise was very casual. There were no formal nights, with shorts and flip-flops allowed everywhere at anytime. My wife and I are veteran cruisers and prefer the traditional two formal nights.
On the positive side, there was no or very little waiting to be seated in the restaurants which we had experienced before on NCL with their freestyle dining. The ship was very clean and our mini-suite was very nice, It had the largest bathroom and the smallest balcony I have seen.
The embarkation and debarkation were excellent, as was the entire staff and crew of the ship.
Being a veteran of 35 + cruises, I do recommend this cruise, especially to first time cruisers.
Carnival Breeze
Sail date: March 05, 2017
Rough weather cause the shows to be canceled. DST time change was done early and not properly announced. Food was average and the prime rib made me very sick.

I am not a big NCL fan, but on this cruise I have very little to complain about. The ship, room, and food were very good. The entertainment was great. I did not like the three stops at Guatemala, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. They were all industrial ports with no shopping and the tours were lacking. Passing through the canal was great as we had a local narrator to tell us all the highlights. The drinks were way overpriced. I am not a big drinker, but paying over twelve dollars for a plain Margarita is a little steep. I do recommend this cruise for everyone.

No More Royal Caribbean for Me
Parking was uncovered, gravel and unmarked. No baggage porters. No instructions. Cost still $112.00.
Beverages $7.00, plus tip, plus tax.
No irons or steamers allowed. No laundry rooms or ironing boards. Pressing offered for a fee.
On board photos were $20.95 for standard 12 x 10, but photos were 5 x 7 inserted in a 12 x 10 photo that had borders of Royal Caribbean photos of the ship.
The nightly show for the late seating dinner at 8 pm, was at 6:30, which defeated the whole purpose for eating late. I never saw a late show because of this.
This was my 37th cruise but last on Royal Caribbean.
Cruise tips
Carnival Breeze
Not as colorful as older Carnival ships.
Norwegian Jewel
Stay away from The Tsar's Palace restaurant for breakfast. The service was terrible.
Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)
Missed due to high winds.
Serenade of the Seas
