Fabulous trip!
Maasdam
Sail date: July 25, 2015
The staff of this smaller ship is exceptional and went above and beyond expectations to ensure we had a very positive experience. The port of Quebec City is amazing and gives you a very European, Old World feel. Prince Edward Island is quaint and very friendly and Halifax is beautiful. The Lunenburg Excursion was fabulous and highly recommended. The port of Sydney was not very interesting and would recommend booking some kind of excursion if you want to explore this area. Otherwise, the city feels like any small-town America area. Bar Harbor was also beautiful and the trip into Acadia National Park is a must. The food was very good and the staff really attend to your needs. Holland America does not tend to push the purchase of items or shopping as some cruises we have taken. It was a lovely experience and we would definitely enjoy recommend this trip.
We extended our vacation by 3 days in Boston and barely scratched the surface of all the interesting things to see in this city. Salem was a side trip for us that we could have done without. It is very commercialized and not as interesting as the many offerings of Boston.
A trip into Acadia National Park is advised. It's beautiful and affordable. There is a nice walkway along the water, as well.
The excursion to Lunenburg was fabulous and worth the price, but it is a lovely city to just walk around in if you prefer to do things on your own. The Citadel looked very interesting and the Public Victorian Gardens looked amazing. I wish we had time to see them!
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
The PEI excursion of the scenic drive and Anne of Green Gables was interesting, but not something that I would say you must see.
Sydney was not very interesting to walk through, but an excursion might be nice. It feels like a small-town American area. People are very friendly and accommodating, but there is little to see just walking around.
This is an absolutely beautiful city and does not require an excursion to enjoy the area to the fullest. It was the highlight of the trip for all in my family.
The people are extremely cordial. Montreal is a very pretty city and the Old Montreal area is lovely. There were many outdoor activities/festivals when we were there.
