November 2016 - Veendam to Panama Canal, Central America

Relaxing Vacation

The Veendam is a great ship on which to view the Panama Canal transit--outside upper deck, inside large lounge (air conditioned), smaller deck on Level 10, and a large bow, plus all around public Deck 6, and of course the full Lido deck.  The service was great, and the food was good.  Other than the four port days in a row, there were sea days mixed in with the other ports, so there was lots of time to sleep, eat, read, and rest.

Celebrity Reflection

April 2016 - Celebrity Reflection to Europe - Mediterranean

Great way to see new places

This itinerary was great--to see places I had never been before.  Booking through was easy and efficient.  Check-in was amazing--no long lines to wait in, even though there were possibly 3,000 passengers.  Dining, of course, was good, and the buffet had a large variety of foods.  Excursions through the ship are expensive, but the guides are good, and of course we felt safe.  All of the ports were interesting.

whitelawcs's Tips

Veendam Veendam - Use the (free) Hollandamerica.com site to see the dinner menu each day so the decision can be made whether to eat in Main Dining or Lido. The Lido and dining rooms also post menus at their entrances. The website also has a free link to the NY Times, which I enjoyed during the election results time
Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala - Lots of shops at the dock. We even caught a free fashion show and cultural program. I bought souvenirs here.
Puerto Corinto, Nicaragua - Glad we took an excursion; really nothing in the port area (although we watched the industrial area).
Panama Canal Transit - This is the best ship to view the transit--lots of viewing places. I watched the whole transit from the front because I had seen other views before, but people were encouraged to move around.
Naples, Italy - We took the ship excursion to Pompeii, which I am sure is on the to-do list for many people. It was very interesting to walk among the ruins, although we could have used a bit more time there.
Mykonos, Greece - It really does look just like the typical photos of white buildings up the hills with a few blue domes and some windmills.
Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy - There is a shuttle from the ship to the city. From there, one can take a bus (2 Euros) to the train station. Budget Rental Car is close by the port entrance, and Hertz is by the train station.,
Celebrity Reflection Celebrity Reflection - The buffet is great, and so is the main dining (where we only ate our evening meals). Service, of course, is great. This is a newer ship with lots to explore.
