Jewel of the Seas

February 2018 - 7 Night Southern Caribbean (San Juan Roundtrip) Cruise on Jewel of the Seas

Back-to-Back Delight

The second half of our two week trip was much better as the islands we visited had not been seriously impacted by the hurricanes.

Grandeur of the Seas

December 2015 - 8 Night Bahamian Christmas (Baltimore Roundtrip) Cruise on Grandeur of the Seas

Christmas Cruise

I would recommend this cruise to any family with children! We celebrated Christmas with our grandchildren and they had a ball!  The staff was very friendly, especially if you luck out and get Tanesha as your waiter...she entertained the kids and they looked forward to seeing her everyday.  I do wish that we would have had more time in Nassau than a 1/2 day.  Yes, the rooms and showers are small, but after 11 cruises it's no big deal. The headliner show was stale and lacked vitality! I agree with other reviewers that parking at Baltimore is stiff...$15 per day! Also, if stopping in Port Canaveral, don't sign-up for the Kennedy Space Center off the ship.  Instead, reserve a rental car (shuttles are frequent) as it is cheaper and more convenient than having to be shoved in a bus and leave when they want...it also gives you more freedom to explore the area!

tsmcgee1's Tips

Castries, St. Lucia - Pitons Cruise & Snorkel: Great catamaran cruise from the port around the tip of St. Kitts to the Pitons and snorkeling in a protected estuary...watch out for the rocks and gravel before you swim out.
St. John's, Antigua - Antigua Beach Express: nice if all you want to do is bask in the sun and swim...no snorkeling allowed and watch out for the wave runners!
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas - Magens Bay Beach Getaway excursion: able to snorkel by swimming from the beach to where the catamarans had anchored...lots
Basseterre, St. Kitts - Lost out on our pre-arranged excursion of "Snorkel St. Kitts" as not enough people signed- up. But we took a tour through "Annies" of the ship of the island and it was well worth it...toured the magnificent fort and island.
Bridgetown, Barbados - Walked the town and visited the churches and Parliament building and the Friday Food Markets.
San Juan, Puerto Rico - Enjoyed touring the city again and admire how they have bounced back from a horrendous hurricane. It will take many years to restore and replace many of the buildings, but the people are resilient.
Philipsburg, St. Maarten - We love St. Maarten, but it really needs to be taken off the schedule until he recovers. We toured both the French and the Dutch sides of the island and the effects of Hurricane Maria are very evident...catamarans, sail boats, etc. scuttled in the bay, container chassis torn asunder and building after building scarred by the winds and rain. On the French side, people are still living in tents. We hope the island recovers to it's former beauty!
Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S.V.I. - Our snorkel excursion was cancelled due to choppy seas, but we toured the island on our own and saw the devastation of Hurricane Maria...it really needs to be taken off the stop schedule for awhile until he recovers as it used to be a vibrant, lively port of call.
Fort-De-France, Martinique - This island should never be a port of call. If you don't have Euros, forget about seeing any of the museums.
Radiance of the Seas Radiance of the Seas - Although we didn't use them, our dining room table mates did and they were less than enthusiastic with the Brazilian Restaurant and Chops Grill...service took too long and the food was less than expected.
Grandeur of the Seas Grandeur of the Seas - Remember that this is a smaller ship as the larger ones cannot get under the bridge in Baltimore. If you want a larger ship, then don't plan on leaving out of Baltimore.
