Review summary

We had 2 rooms at approximately $9000 without working toilets.  Toilets would stop working after one use in the morning and would stay clogged and full until someone could temporarily fix-usually around 8pm that night when we were at dinner.  Unacceptable.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Our dining room service staff members were wonderful and attentive. We loved Toro!

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
They were going on but we usually missed them.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
A little sleepy for my taste. I realize that Holland America is usually for older cruisers but some of the more interesting entertainment only had one show so if you had the late dining reservation you missed it or missed half of the show.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
Seemed to offer activities for kids. My 12 year old wasn't interested.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Toro in the dining room was wonderful. Our state room attendant was attentive and pleasant. Other bartenders and misc service staff were a little slow to take orders and not as attentive. Many dirty dishes lying around. Always difficult to find someone to take a drink order.

Ship Quality

We had 2 rooms. Both toilets were broken EVERY DAY. They would work one time in the morning and then weren't cleaned or fixed until sometimes 8pm. Same thing every morning and day. There was a blockage somewhere (not our fault) that apparently they couldn't fix. RIDICULOUS. 2 rooms for almost $9000 without a working toiled. Had to go up 3 floors to use the bathroom in the mornings and throughout the day.

Cabin / Stateroom

Toilet was not working for the entire trip. Unacceptable.

Ship tip

Boat is a little tired. Lots of leaks everywhere.

Toilets that don't work, drains that don't drain, air conditioning that doesn't cool and cabins with no hot water are quickly becoming a commonality in older ships regardless of the cruise line. If the money being spent only to change the decor in the common areas of the ships was directed at basic problems with the plumbing and heating systems, there would be fewer complaints.
