Review summary

Once again, our experience on Holland America's MS Zaandam was fabulous. I wish we could have brought our cabin steward home with us - his service was more than we could have asked for. I can and do recommend Holland America every chance I get. Their staterooms are large, the service is outstanding and the food's not bad (just need more choices).

We took the Deluxe Misty Fjords float plane trip. It was the most beautiful, awe-inspiring place we've ever seen. That coupled with the excitement of flying in the mist and the cliffs of the fjords made for a once in a lifetime trip. Shopping was mediocre and we didn't try any restaurants.

Don't Miss: Don't miss the fjords, either by plane or by boat.

Beautiful city with very friendly people. Wish we'd had more time there. 8:00 - Midnight, didn't give us much of an opportunity to explore the city and excursions offered were limited. We plan to go back and see it on our own when we have more time.

The captain's choice wildlife quest and beach walk was amazing. We had the best naturalist/tour guide we've ever encountered. She made the whole trip a lot of fun for everyone. The shopping in Sitka was good, too. We enjoyed a good meal at the Bayview Restaurant.

We thoroughly enjoyed our whale watching excursion and trip to Mendenhall Glacier. Our only complaint was that it was too warm, a balmy 84 degrees is warmer than we expected. The shopping's good too.

Don't Miss: The Empress Hotel

Pros: The ship's crew is cheerful, courteous and friendly and they're always responsive to our needs. The ship is spotless and they are constantly working on keeping it that way.

Cons: The food was not as good this time as in the past. For those of us that don't eat or cannot eat seafood, the choices were very limited.
