Did not know that Holland America caters to a much older crowd. Overall we were disappointed with Holland America. Although we had a good time, being part of a group of 40, was expecting great things but everything was just average. Meals were noting to brag about, dining room service was good but slow although our waiter was more than happy to bring seconds when requested. Our cabin steward was great. Loved the laundry service, well worth it. Activities weren't that great. No announcements during the day when around the pool of upcoming activities. On board shopping not as good as Royal Caribbeans's. In fact, this is the first cruise where we didnt' spend a small fortune on board or off. Not enough time in ports to do an excursion and then sight see. Shore excursion personnel not helpful at all. One day in particular we were trying to get information on taking a taxi to the beach on our own since the shore excursion price at $30.00 per person was sold out. 14 of us rented a van for $4.00 per person to take us to the beach and made arrangements with the driver for the return trip. In Grand Caymen the vans and taxis are right off the dock and you can make your own arrangements for much cheaper. Besides, which the shore excursion girls refused to give us any help. Stating they didn't want to be responsible if we weren't satisfied. We only wanted information on if it was even possible to rent a van and they did not want to help us. In Cozumel we booked the Fury Catamaran Excursion. Well worht the $49.00 pp fee. Had a great time. Night time extertainment was entertaining, not great but enjoyable. Buffets closed down too early.
