Review summary

It was pleasant and relaxing. I wish there would have been a little more for us to do onboard. Again, a good cruise for a first timer.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
It was long and Royal Caribbean has MANY boarding groups, of which we were one of the last groups. It makes me question why you sign up for a check in time (we signed up to check in at 10:30 am) and didn't get on board until almost 1:00 pm.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food in the main dining room was good. However, it puzzled us on the "Captain's Dinner" night, where you should be getting dressed up (suit, formal wear) that they had fish and chips as the first selection on the menu. Nothing really special on the menu for that evening. Up charges for crab, lobster and filet. Drink packages aren't worth it unless you plan on drinking over $60.00 a day. Lemonade, water and coffee are always available.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
The reason for the low rating is that it is a small ship with 2 pools, one for adults only. I initially thought this ship had a zip line and the wave ride, but it only had the rock climbing wall. They did not have a shop on board that sold sundries (lotion, candy, small items). Maybe the reasoning was that you could get off at the ports They shops on board were expensive (high end jewelry, purses, perfumes, etc.). We also attended the art action, which we thought dragged on quite a bit. We were interested in one piece and if it would have come up, we might have considered it depending on the price. But we ended up leaving after an hour.

Entertainment

They offered two show times, but we would have had to eat very quickly in order to make the first show right after our 5:30 dinner.

Children's Programs

Our 11 year old was not interested in participating. There were a few kids on board due to spring break.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward, Foster, was really sweet and accommodating. Actually, all the staff on board was very nice.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship needs to be updated. However It was clean. I was a little surprised that there were smoking areas on board (casino and pool deck)

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
One of the smaller cabins we've ever had, but plenty of storage. There was a bunk that dropped down from the ceiling for my daughter to sleep in, which was rather awkward, and she was scared to sleep in it (so she slept with my husband and I).

Ship tip

It is a good if you're going on your first cruise. Not overwhelming, but enough to get your feet wet (so to speak) to go on other cruises.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

4 out of 5
We spent the night after our cruise. Plenty to do and see.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

3 out of 5
We had a beach excursion for a few hours. It was okay. Nice to get off the boat.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Worth every penny to do the dolphin swim encounter! We had an hour in a pool with 2 dolphins. We were able to interact with them and best of all swim with them!

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
It was a little different than what we had experienced in the past. A little confusing at first, but smooth.
