Great Introductory cruise to Alaska

Let me begin by saying we had a wonderful time. This was our 8th cruise, 4th on RCCl. Our last cruise was on Navigator of the Seas, a much larger and newer ship. Although the "wow factor" was not as great upon embarking, this ship was better suited for an Alaska cruise...not so huge...and it felt cozy, light and airy. Vision is in surprisingly good shape for being 8 yrs. old. She does need a bit of new upholstery and carpet in some areas. The Some Enchanted Evening Lounge could use an update. I sat at the end of a sofa while playing Bingo, and the leather arm rest fell off onto the floor (It was supposed to be attached with velcro)...just a bit worn...and the seat cushions in the Windjammer Cafe need replacing..they are not very comfortable and some are tearing in the seams. But most of the ship was in good shape.
We especially enjoyed lounging in the Solarium. This was an oasis for adults only. A great place to read and enjoy the views.
The food was good overall, but not great. If you have been on a Celebrity cruise, this food is average in comparison. The Windjammer Cafe offered a pretty good selection at lunch time, but after a few days I noticed that some of the heated items were leftovers from the night before that had been used in a casserole or reheated with other items. Rather than throw things out, soups were made, goulashes, pasta dishes...things like that....dessert items were very tasty. The main dining room had pretty good food...some nights were not so good and a few items were very good....nothing memorable. The service was slower than it should have been between courses. We were in the diningroom for an hour and a half before the entree arrived. Room service was very prompt. Breakfasts in the Windjammer were fine...Lots of items. No omelette station, but they did have ready made omelettes in heating trays...slightly dry...ham and cheese or just cheese. To have a fresh omelette, you would have to eat in the main diningroom. The mixed drinks were strong...very generous and tasty. I didn't feel like the waiters were being pushy about the drinks.
The cabin service was very good. Our attendant was always available to us.
Shore excursions were great.
The best thing offered to us on this cruise was the express Valet disembarkation service. For 15.00 you can get your airline boarding passes on the ship, have special tags put on your luggage and get off the ship early without any lines. Plus, you do not see your checked luggage until your final destination once it leaves the ship. This was worth every penny to us. It made the end of the cruise so easy.
The shows on this cruise were ok...not 1st rate...but I really loved the jazz ensemble in the Centrum each evening. All I wanted to do was dance! They were great!
Overall, we had a great time. We want to see more of Alaska now. We are planning our next cruise on Celebrity in 2008 for a 13 night cruise to more ports.

Pros: not too big, clean ship, friendly staff, great jazz music in the Centrum, lots of windows, generous jr. suite cabin

Cons: few gallery needs better organization of prints, midnight buffet was lacking in displays, bathrooms could have offered a couple more amentities
