Viking Sky Cruise Reviews - Tips

We have never been on a Viking River Cruise, but we heard MANY people talking and comparing. We came to the conclusion from hearing so many that there is really not a direct comparison... so our advice is don't try to compare. Look at Viking Ocean as a new adventure...!

Expect hiccups along the way, especially departures earlier than advertised (with very little notice). If excursions you want are sold out prior to departure, keep checking back before departure (we got one two weeks before departure) and after embarkation (once aboard, we were able to add two tours that had been sold out prior to departure).

We would have booked more additional tours

Sign up for bridge tours/galley tours as soon as possible. If your excursion is timed so that you'll miss lunch, be sure to eat a big breakfast. You can make one reservation at Manfredi's before the cruise, but once onboard you can make more if there are openings. It’s a must-eat kind of place and it’s included in the cost of the cruise!

Bring plastic hooks that you can use in cabin to hang things. The ones that come off with out damage.

You do a great job on your cruises. Both on your river and ocean itineraries. Pay attention to your customer service. Will continue to travel with you but book land portion myself when practicle.

Book your special dining as soon as you are able...every night is booked solid ahead of cruise. You can always cancel if you can’t go.

Bring with you some Xanax ...on your last night you will start have a separation anxiety.... we miss them....

Pack lightly, there is little clothing storage in the cabin. Avoid cabins above the Torshavn as the sound insulation is poor at best.

Make your own onboarding arrangements. The arrival / onboarding experience was a nightmare.

Don't pack your formal wear because there are no formal nights.

These guys are really organized. Pay attention to the assigned times to meet for excursions and all will go smoothly.

Enjoy the wonderful staff! They are exceptional, everyone of them.

This is an older, children-free crowd.

Do more of the optional excursions.

smaller ship but never seemed crowded, great layout and very smooth.

Shore excursions categorized as "Privileged Access" are genuine treats - don't hesitate to spend money on those excursions.
