Because we live within driving distance to Boston, this was a great way for us to visit Bermuda without flying.  We had been thinking of flying and staying at a hotel, but when I found the Veendam, which docks right on front street in Hamilton, it was a win.  I describe it as driving to your hotel, checking in, and letting your hotel room take you to Bermuda!  We had been on a larger ship to the Dock Yards in the past.  We did not want to have to take transportation to do everything.  We like to walk and Hamilton is a beautiful "city" to walk around.  The ferries are right down the road so you can easily get to other parts of Bermuda, or grab a cab, or a bus right in front of the ship (the central bus station is up the hill where you can get any bus, I think). This is our first cruise on a smaller ship - it was so relaxing!

Food and Dining

We enjoyed the Lido food more than the dining food, which was wonderful because we did not want to have to change our clothes every evening to have good food.

Onboard Activities

We really enjoyed the Microsoft classes and the cuisine classes. It may have been nice to have some more trivia and bingo. Many were at times we were doing other things.

We loved having a chaise lounge chair on the balcony, binoculars to use included in the room, and a throw to put on when it was chilly out on the balcony. We do use the balcony. The bed was very comfortable. It was nice having a full size couch. The only thing we would have liked more was a little larger TV that could swivel a bit more to be easily seen the farther side of the bed. We really did not understand why satellite was blocked, and therefore news channels we wanted to watch, while in Bermuda.

Ship Tip

If they have BBQ night on the Lido deck, don't miss it! All of the food was fantastic. It was not your typical BBQ with heavy sauces. The grilled jumbo shrimp were seasoned very nicely, the beef ribs were totally different than I have ever seen, chicken, pork, etc. The salad table was loaded.

We didn't visit Boston on trip. We do love Boston though.
