Great ports

Sail Date: June 01, 2013

Reviewed: 3 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/older children

Room Type: Suite

The ship was nice and since is was a small ship it was easy to navigate. The elevators were quick boarding at the ports was easy.

Pros: Every port was an much to do such little time. Food was execellent at the local restaurants

Cons: Tours throught he cruise line were excessively over priced and poorly managed. We could have arranged better tours for a lot less on our own. I recommend reasearch for each port and plan ahead for tours.

Recommends Veendam? No.

Ship Quality
The ship was laid out well and easy to navigate\, the public areas were comfortable and clean. It would have been nice if the exterior of the windows were clean to enjoy the nice views.
Food and Dining
The dining room was good and convenient to eat dinner was flexible but if you do not make a reservation you may have to wait for a table. Waits were usually less than 10 minutes for peak times. The all day dining lacked imagination\, variety and flavor but made up for it in convenience it was always easy and never lines but dinner was over early so do not plan to eat after 8:30 or get snacks late evening. Room service line was often busy.
Cabin / Stateroom
The lanai rooms are small but very the location is great and the access to the promenade deck is worth it. Having your own reserved steamer chairs was wonderful although they pick up the cushions around 5pm and if you want to enjoy your deck after that you have to go find a cushion or tip the guy that picks them up and he will leave it for you. Other passengers did not always respect the reserved signs.
Service and Staff
Most of the staff were absolutely wonderful although some seemed like if was a real struggle to put on a smile.
The variety was very good I think there was something for everyone over 50. The entertainment was predominately geared for an older crowd but very will produced and entertaining. The cruise director Jason was excellent and often more entertaining than the shows.
