Trip of a lifetime!

Sail Date: June 28, 2009

Reviewed: 7 years ago

Traveled As: Singles/Friends

Room Type: Oceanview

It was a fabulous, well organized cruise from notification about our late departure (which gave us more time in Vancouver) to the upbeat and helpful crew. We loved the onboard Lifestyles/fitness program which was free and included Tai Chi classes, aqua aerobics, sunset stroll, etc. The naturalist on staff was also very informative in various programs as were the park rangers in Glacier Bay. The food was generally excellent and the pastry chef was outstanding. There was a 5K Race for the Cure onboard, which we participated in and thought was a great idea.

Pros: The cabin stewards and wait staff were outstanding, the room very comfortable even for 4, food was first rate, plenty of activities onboard

Cons: Front desk wasn't so helpful, very annoying that the prices for in-cabin beverages isn't posted ANYWHERE until you receive a bill for them

Recommends Veendam? Yes!

Food and Dining
A wide variety of selections for vegetarians to meatlovers
Ship Quality
Far superior to larger cruise ships. Very clean with non-intrusive decor.
Cabin / Stateroom
Even with 4 adults sharing a cabin, it was comfortable. Stewards were very helpful at all times.
Service and Staff
Crew seemed to be very happy, friendly and efficient. Even with open seating in the dining room, we requested a specific waiter every night because we enjoyed him so much.
Entertainment
A wide variety of entertainment and activities for all ages. We enjoyed several of the shows as well as movies and presentations by naturalists and other authorities. We also enjoyed the abbreviated version of the Times and the information available in the library.
Skagway, Alaska
Really cute little town.
Don't Miss: Train to the Yukon, Soapy Sales show.
Juneau, Alaska
Lots of time in port to do many things, if you have enough energy!
Don't Miss: Whale watching, Mendenhall Glacier, Glacier Gardens (beautiful botanical garden)
Ketchikan, Alaska
Rain was a nuisance, but it's a rain forest. On the wildlife tour we saw many eagles and salmon beginning their swim upstream.
Don't Miss: Creek Street was fun and the Totems shouldn't be missed.
