Brilliant cruise, great anytime food... by Foxette

Sail Date: /

Brilliant cruise, great anytime food options, all inclusive drinks package amazing, tapas was lovely meal. All staff work hard & are friendly, deluxe balcony cabin was perfect for the 2 of us. The ship is not too big to feel overcrowded & busy but has a good atmosphere all round. Booked again for next year!

Terrific Marella Cruise by GrahamPauline

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

We’ve just returned from one week cruising the Greek Islands and Turkey on Marella Discovery 2. This was our second cruise with TUI having last year cruised on Discovery 1. Once again the week was virtually faultless from the moment we arrived at Corfu airport until the time we were dropped back there. Throughout our trip there was never a shortage of staff who were always friendly and happy to assist you. The ship was in excellent condition having only been refitted last year and the crew were continually trying to maintain that standard without being intrusive. The choice of food and drink was good both in quality and selection. The Surf ‘n Turf Restaurant was outstanding. On board entertainment was tremendous especially in the theatre where the shows were performed to the highest standard by a competent and professional team. We cannot comment on the organised excursions as we never booked any. We chose instead to just go ashore and wander around the ports of call which were all enjoyable in their own way. It was a good choice of ports but special mention must be given to Skiathos which was a beautiful island – very clean and tidy. Just a couple of small niggles. Having purchased an eight day internet package it was difficult and sometimes impossible to get on line. This became very frustrating on occasions as contact with our business at home was crucial. The problem was further highlighted having had similar trouble the previous year on Discovery 1 which was never resolved. The only other complaint was the long processing time on our return to Corfu airport. This however was the airport’s problem and not TUI whose abundance of staff did all they could to make the process as easy as possible. In conclusion the whole cruise was an excellent experience further enhanced by a great crew and friendly passengers and we are already looking forward to booking our next one with Marella Cruises.

Pugwash 7. Cabin 3066 What a... by Pugwash7

Sail Date: /

Pugwash 7. Cabin 3066 What a super ship! Just had 2 weeks cruising in the Mediterranean. Very little to moan about. Ship is great and well maintained. Crew can’t be praised highly enough, they are short staffed in some areas, but they work so hard to cover this and always with a smile on their faces. Food was excellent in all the food outlets, especially 47*. Station 1 with Marko and his team come well recommended. Melissa in destination services, deserves a special mention for all the time and work she spent sorting out our next cruise with Marella, next year!! Can’t wait!!

What a holiday by trevortracey

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

Really can not find fault with the ship. They could do with a few more staff in certain departments, but where they were short the staff done the up most to help you and always had a smile. The shows were out of this world and very professional. If you get bored on the ship you only have one person blame, yourself. Food where ever you eat is lovely. The main restaurants food is as good as any top restaurant the staff always make sure you do not go hungry or your glass is empty. Only complaints the two weeks we spent on the ship went to quick and none of my clothes s fit! now already booked my next cruise with Marella can't wait

Iconic Islands followed by Adriatic Explorer 4TH May by itsbigmal

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

We had 8086 right in the middle of the rear, two weeks ago for a back to back 14-night Iconic Islands followed by Adriatic Explorer. A very large balcony and a good size cabin. The problems started about 3 in the morning on the first night with a cleaning crew dragging day and sunbeds above us on deck 9 they also jet wash and clean all the glass, we thought it was a thunderstorm. We complained at reception, filled in the suggestions slips and rang when the racket started every night, they said it would be investigated but on our two week cruise we only got two nights uninterrupted sleep!!! We did have a phone call on the penultimate evening from reception offering us money for the disruption and they said it was a known problem. The morning discussion with the cabins to the side of us was always about the noise. Also there was a problem with soot from the engines landing on the balcony and soon learnt not to sit on the chairs before the room was cleaned, we were told by the cabin attendant that they would clean our clothes at no charge. Then to top it all we were in the Giudecca Canal leaving Venice, waving to the shore and passing boats, a party was in full swing to celebrate the first year of the Discovery 2 joining the Marella fleet with an opera singer starting to sing “Time to say goodbye” and the ship lost all propulsion so three tugs came to the rescue and dragged us back to the birth. This was at 18:00 we had to overnight it in Venice and finally were released after repair 14:00 the next day. This meant that we had to miss our docking in Split and made for a late arrival in Dubrovnik. For this we were all awarded £25 which we thought was a bit of a joke. I wonder if we have any comeback on this one? These things really spoilt my retirement treat so sorry Marella but never again.

Butlins on the high seas ! by joporter

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

Disappointing. Very basic compared with other cruise lines have been on. All inclisive is not as it seems, and cleanliness of the islands restaurant and the plastic glasses served on deck have a lot to be desired. We upgraded to the premium drinks package so we could have bottled water in our cabin but I wouldn’t bother for the alcohol side of the package as the drinks vary whether you upgrade or not! Usually to the cheaper option ! Noise every night above our cabin caused by cleaning staff dragging sun beds around starting as early as 1.30 am, then jet washing and mopping the deck at the rear of deck 9 directly above our bed!! Only 2 nights sleep in two weeks! Ship broke down in Venice so we missed the port of Split in Croatia which was disappointing. £25 pp refund hardly compensated, and still await refund of excursion previously booked for that day. We spent a lot of money for a disappointing 2 weeks. There were lots of other little niggles, but these are the main criticisms of our trip. Sorry I just can’t give a more positive review.

A beautiful ship staff warm... by cricky

Sail Date: /

A beautiful ship staff warm and friendly, food was great and a good standard. Ship well kept and clean. Entertainment mostly good. Have sailed with tui (thomson) on a number of occasions and always been pleased. However the one thing that was a bit disappointing was the all inclusive drinks package. We sailed on the discovery last year and paid supplements of £1 to £1.20 this has gone up this year to £2.50. That in my opinion is a massive increase and disappointing.

Silver sunsets by rosiejoan

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

Loved cruising and got quickly into a sailing routine. 6 pm cocktails in bar 11 watching the wonderful sunsets. Followed by dinner in 47* three courses of amazing fresh food. Then we would find some live music and enjoy the rest of the evening. In the morning we would wake up to another exciting country to explore. Usually doing our own thing, catching a taxi to a beach or exploring the city.

Great Caribbean Cruise by Gate54

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

The flight from Manchester to Montego Bay on a Dreamliner was great. We didn’t see our luggage once we had dropped it off at the airport until it appeared outside our cabin about an hour after we embarked. The transfer from Montego Bay to the ship was not so good as we waited in a queue for over an hour waiting for a bus to transfer us to the ship. We were lucky. A number of flights landed in quick succession and some had to wait 2 hours for their transfer. It was raining heavily in Montego Bay and the traffic to the ship was busy so maybe this caused the problem. Our first impressions of the ship were that it looked great and we weren’t disappointed with it at any stage of the cruise. We had an inside cabin on deck 3 and it was more than adequate for our needs and it was kept spotlessly clean. The staff throughout the cruise were very friendly and helpful. All said hello when we passed them. We ate in the restaurants and buffet and found the food and service to be very good we also ate in the Surf and Turf Restaurant and the meal was fantastic. We didn’t feel the need to upgrade to the Premium drinks package as there was already plenty on offer that we liked. We found the entertainment to be of good quality although it wasn’t always to our taste. We mainly used the ship excursions and thought they were reasonable value for money. One of our excursions was to 2 different places and the price was either £44 or £55. I looked at the separate prices for each attraction and the entrance for each of them was $40. We also had a guide to each of them, transport to them and a drink at one of them. On some of the other excursions lunch was included. I listened to the complaints of some on the cruise and you can make your own mind up if you think they were justified. I visited deck 9 on a number of occasions during the day and evening and some were complaining that the All Inclusive package was not good value for money. I visited that deck a number of times and the same people were there complaining whilst having a different drink each time I was there. They seemed to be slurring their words a bit come later in the evening! Someone was complaining that the climbing wall was not open when the Cruise News clearly states the opening times. We had a couple of rough days at sea and someone complained that the outdoor pool was closed and the same person complained that there was no entertainment on the outside deck that day. It was obvious to me that it would have been unsafe. Some complained that there was not enough to do on sea days. I have a copy of one day’s cruise news, a port day, and there are 24 different activities and this does not include the entertainment around the ship, the shows, the climbing wall or the mini golf. After a tour of the rainforest one woman complained that she had seen too many sloths and not enough of other kinds of animals. We enjoyed our cruise and the ports of call and would have no hesitation in going on this ship again. Indeed we could probably do the same cruise and still find different things to do.
