Not that great!

Sail Date: November 01, 2009

Room Type: Oceanview

This ship needs major renovation. Many complaints from passengers about no control of cooling in their staterooms. Cruise director continually talked about the stately and elegant Statendam. Yes at one time not now! A few days into the cruise the water had to be shut off for repair of a leaking pipe that lasted 4 hours, not a long time but another indication of the condition of this ship. After the water was turned on the water was cloudy which cleared in a few minutes they said it was ok but one wonders, that lasted another few hours!!

Pros: It was relaxing

Cons: There was only 1 good port worth visiting.

Recommends Statendam? No.

Ship Quality
Cleanliness was great, decor needs updating, I liked that it was not a huge ship which means your not bumping into each other.
Cabin / Stateroom
again needs updating, new carpet, new walls, new tile in bathroom.
Food and Dining
The presentation was great, but the food after awhile tasted the same. I also believe they use preservatives on the food to keep it fresh. I don't know how you can keep salads fresh for a 2 week cruise. There were many who suffered from gastric distress after eating, as the smell was the same throughout the ship.
Service and Staff
The ship personnel were excellent to help provide the best possible service.
Entertainment
The entertainment for the most part was excellent. The comedians were not that great. The Neal Diamond inpersonator was terrible. The resident ship entertainers were great!
