Review Summary

This was our first cruise experience so we had no idea what to expect and nothing to compare it to. Overall it was a fantastic trip! We took the Alaskan 'Inside Passage' cruise from Vancouver to Whittier and were much more excited about seeing the scenery and visiting the towns at our port stops than we were about the ship itself. Doing the things we did while in Alaska - zip lining, whale watching, train riding, crab eating, glacier viewing - were all amazing and fantastic once in a lifetime experiences that we'll never forget! Alaska is stunningly beautiful! Our voyage accommodations aboard the Star Princess were comfortable and clean. Our stateroom attendant was extremely pleasant, always greeting us every morning and making sure we had what we needed. We traveled with our large family and our daughters and niece shared a room two cabins away and he took extra special care of them as well. All the employees we encountered were polite and friendly for the exception of a few 'rotten apples' that worked as waiters/managers in the Skywalker's Dance Lounge. Our daughters are 15 and 19 and were with other adult family members every night while dancing in the club and it was never an issue until the last night of our trip (a Friday night) when they were busy and some staff members very rudely kicked them out. My husband and several of my in-laws tried to explain that they had plenty of supervision, they weren't drinking but just dancing and having fun, but it fell on deaf ears and it was demanded that they leave. Very rude, inappropriate and unnecessary! The food at the buffet was 'okay' but it got very boring eating the same thing for breakfast every morning. The dinners in the restaurant were delicious! They were nothing short of nightly 'events' with 5 courses of all-you-can-eat mania! The staff was impeccable and after 7 nights they felt like part of our family too. We were a little surprised by some of the extra charges like the forced daily gratuity and that some of the events on board cost extra to participate in, like cyber golf, but all in all it was a great experience and an unforgettable trip. Thank you Princess!
