Cruise met some expectations

Sail Date: February 17, 2007

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

Overall the ship was very nice. Facilities were great, and we really enjoyed some of the activities such as mini-golf. Our room was nicer than it appeared in the online description. The customer service offered by most of the employees was very good, but there were some disappointments. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful, but she was not knowledgable about wines and some types of food. The biggest disappointment came with one of our excursions. We waited in a line of approximately 200 people to get off of the ship and walked to the pier only to find out that our excursion had been cancelled due to choppy seas. By the time we were able to get back to the ship there were very few excursions that had not already started. When we asked the Excursions Manager why we could not have been notified earlier, he stated that the ship had no way of getting this information in advance. In this day of advanced technology and communication methods, I quite frankly found this hard to believe. When asked if he had any recommendations for what else we could do, he simply said "Well you can shop or go to the beaches." Yet he was unable to recommend a beach or tell us about any hot spots stating that he personally didn't know much about the area since he never got off the ship. Another example of an employee without sufficient knowledge to do his job well!

Pros: the many activities available onboard

Cons: Poor customer service offered by Excursions Manager

Recommends Splendour of the Seas? Yes!

Food and Dining
Dinner was generally very good, but the breakfast offered in the Windjammer Cafe was not very good. The pancakes and french toast were horrible.
Service and Staff
See comments above. Most employees were very friendly and helpful but we did find a few who were not.
Ship Quality
Would be improved with more non-smoking sections. Some areas on the ship were very smoky.
Cabin / Stateroom
Very pleasantly surprised with the room.
Loved the variety of activities. Entertainment was good overall. but I have seen better. The dancers were fantastic!
Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico
The shopping area near the ship is very overpriced! The village is somewhat primitive, but it felt more like seeing the "real Mexico." The water is beautiful, but there is a lot of trash on the beaches.
Cozumel, Mexico
We had a lot of fun on the Eco Jeep Tour!
