Our only other cruise was with Princess and that may be why we're a little disappointed with SOS. Embarkation goes smoothly as long as your paperwork is complete. The cabin was unbelievably small even though we paid for a category D - Larger Ocean View. Total sq.-ft.-only 157; compared to cheapest room on Princess 171-sq.-ft. Entertainment was so-so. Can't comment on kids' programs. The Purser's desk had some of the rudest people we've ever encountered on a vacation. The ship smelled very musty and old (built in 1988). The pool has salt water (not filtered) and is shared by kids. On a positive note, the dining staff and cabin attendants were wonderful. Very nice and attentive. We were caught off guard when we discovered we had to put out another $100 in tips to cabin, dining and wait staff. Shore excursions are not fully explained and people were wondering the streets of the Bahamas trying to find their boats and where to go. It may be unfair to compair RCI with Princess because they are two completely separate classes of ships. Princess is by far a five-star cruise. Maybe another RCI ship (newer) may have better people and a cleaner, better smelling ship. I'd recommend saving a little more money and spend it on something more worthwhile and with more bang for your buck - like Princess or Celebrity.
