overall a good cruise

Sail Date: December 08, 2006

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Inside

Although the ship is one of, if not the oldest, in the fleet it has been maintained well (for the most part). The staff could not be beat. From the waiters, to the cabin crew, to the dealers you could not find a nicer bunch of people.

Pros: The food in the dining rooms was fabulous

Cons: old, outdated, in disrepair bathrooms

Recommends Sovereign of the Seas (RETIRED)? Yes!

Cabin / Stateroom
Would have liked a clock in the room. Also, could not hear the announcements made over the PA system in the room without opening the door. Other ships I have been on allowed a speaker in the room to be turned up to hear such announcements. Rooms were small (of course). We drank the bottled water offered in the staterooms yet they were never replaced by additional bottles.
Ship Quality
The public bathrooms did not thoroughly flush most of the time. Many of the public bathrooms were in disrepair, a screw missing here, a backed up sink there, etc. My husband and I stayed on the 6th deck and there was a lingering odor of sewerage in the hallway leading from the elevators to our room. It was not overwhelming but still prevalent.
Food and Dining
We were assigned the 8:30pm dinner in the Illusions dining room. The dining room food and service were excellent, could not be better.
Entertainment
We were unable to visit one of our island stops and the activities crew had to come up with alternatives within a very short amount of time, and handled this delicate job efficiently and effectively.
Service and Staff
Our waiter in the Illusions dining room was excellent. He often stopped to talk with us made sure our food was to our liking. He recommended many items and each and every one was superb. The casino staff (dealers and pit boss') were friendly and outgoing, not qualities you see too often from the like.
Nassau, Bahamas
We only visited the downtown shopping area. The streets were dirty and the buildings appeared to be crumbling. We felt we needed to be back to the ship before dark as it appeared that once the sun went down the crime probably increased. This was NOT witnessed just a feeling, an apprehension.
