A fantastic way to holiday

Sail Date: December 26, 2006

Traveled As: Family w/older children

Room Type: Oceanview

This was my first time on board the Royal Carribean cruise and it did not disappoint. The rooms were very comfortable, with a surprisingly comfortable bed and the bathroom was more than adequate. The rooms were cleaned at least twice a day and the room attendant that we had was extremely friendly. The restaurant in the evening was very good indeed. There was no limit to the amount you could order or eat and the waiters were again very friendly and helpful. Entertainment was in abundance and clearly there were shows, events, facilities to suit a wide range of people. There was always a good atmosphere by the swimming pool with lots of dancing and music and the bar attendants really got involved with the dancing. Occasionally, the music was on a bit too much, i.e during the day when you wanted to relax and sunbathe. Overall however, a very good first cruise.

Pros: The opportunity to visit the Bahamas, the entertainment and atmosphere on board

Cons: Quite a lot of kids on this trip

Recommends Sovereign of the Seas (RETIRED)? Yes!

Ship Quality
Some of the interior looked a little bit dated, particularly in the bedrooms. Although comfortable, could do with a bit of modernizing. The public areas were well kept and cleanliness in gereral was very good. The ship offered a sanitization facility before entering the main restaurant which is a good idea.
Food and Dining
Breakfast was excellent. A very good selection and very good quality. Dinner usually offered a good selection and despite the number of people at each sitting, it never felt crowded or rushed. It was a good idea that you were able to open a bottle of wine and it could be kept for the next day if not finished.
Cabin / Stateroom
Could do with modernising, but the beds were very comfortable. Bathrooms could do with modernising too.
Good variety. The cruise director (bing bong) had a good presence at all the events.
Service and Staff
The ship staff were all very friendly and really created a good ambience on board.
Cococay (Cruiseline's Private Island)
It was little bit crowded on the day we went which was a bit unfortunate however the island was a real delight and the BBQ that was put on was excellent.
Nassau, Bahamas
Nassau was ok, a little disappointing as there was not a lot to see. Nassau has lost it's identity a little bit. The entrance to Nassua off the boat was very pleasant, lots of colours. The boat trip to Paradise Island was the best part of the day, better restauarants over there.
