We had the cruise (or similar) booked for 2020, which was canceled thanks to CoVid. The highlight at that time would have been St. Petersburg, so it was disappointing to so this without this overnight stay, but it was still a good cruise. We did it as part of B2B with Norway. The fjords were definitely the highlight overall, so it's a little hard to remember all the best parts of this first part of the cruise.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
This was our first time at Southampton and everything went well. We had our medallions mailed to us for the first time, but it seemed like it would not have matter. A long line outside the terminal but it moved fast and once we got inside, we could not have moved any faster.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We loved Sky Princess. It was our first time on this Royal class ship, but we were on Enchanted previously, including 2023 in the Mediterranean. We were also on Royal years ago. I loved the Terrace pool area and bar. The Mix bar had great bartenders. We enjoyed the shows, dining rooms, and just being on the ship.
Slice
5 out of 5
The Pizza at Slice was great. This was my lunch on most days.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
I did not participate in any organized onboard activities.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The three production shows were great, even though we had seen them all at least once before. Some of the musicians were great, others not to my taste. Comedians were hit or miss. Most were from the UK and much of the humor did not work for us. The hypnotist was bad.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Service and staff were fantastic. Our room steward was very responsive to our routine and needs. Most of the waiters in the dining rooms were great. Some were slower provided slower service than others.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The design of Royal class ships, and Sky in particular is great. No problems getting around. Plenty of places to hang out on sea days, even in colder climate. The ship was clean and in good shape.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
This was a great standard balcony cabin on the Lido deck. We like the upper decks, including some extra movement at night. If you don't like to feel the ship move at night this is not the area for you, but it's an easy walk across the pool deck to the buffet for breakfast in the morning. This room was just a few steps from the forward elevators. This was very convenient for getting to the theatre, or midship dining rooms. We don't spend any time in the casino, but it would also be convenient for getting there.
Ship tip
Deck 17 is a good place to observe things like going under a bridge.
Skagen was great. Loved seeing the point where the North Sea and the Baltic come together, even if it's not really the Baltic at that point. The rest of the tour was fun too, including driving through various small towns.
Again we enjoyed touring the old city, but our tour guide seemed to feel like she knew better than the excursion planners about what we should see, so we missed gallows, and didn't have the allotted time at the old church viewing point.
