The cruise was a lovely introduction to Princess which we'll use again if the destination and price are right.
Embarkation and disembarkation need to be desperately improved.
Embarkation
1 out of 5
Embarkation was utter chaos. 40 minute wait before CPS took our car then 30 minute wait outside the terminal. Once inside due to my tier level, we fast tracked check in but then had another long wait to go through security onto the ship. Our medallions were zapped but nobody advised us about going to our muster station etc. We had to ask. First time sailing with Princess and communication was extremely poor.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
MDR's were awful. Repetitive menus, small portions and poor quality food.
In comparison, the other eateries were superb. Lovely pizza/burgers on lido deck and lots of variety in the Marketplace. The food was hot and fresh.
Special diets really well catered for and clearly signed
Alcohol was expensive but soft drinks very reasonable in comparison.
Tea, coffee, water and iced lemonade available for free allthe time.Lack of fruit teas though.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Didn't partake in any activities but plenty to do.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Entertainment was plentiful to suit all ages and tastes. Live music was excellent.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All the staff were friendly and helpful throughout the ship and seemed to enjoy their jobs.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship was spotless and easy to navigate with the interactive maps.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We normally book a balcony cabin but as this was our first cruise with Princess, we opted for an inside. The cabin was large and airy but we missed the natural light so stayed on deck as much as possible.
Ship tip
Become familiar with the app as life on the ship doesn't function without it 🙂
OK for a walk about to stretch the legs but nothing much there. 30 minute walk into the town centre where cafes and souvenirs can be found at rather costly prices.
The ship docks beside an aggregate yard and fish processing warehouses so it was very smelly if sat outside on deck.
Plenty to see and do but very expensive.
The ship docks by the cement works so the area is quite noisy at times.
We stayed onboard as have visited Oslo on previous cruises.
Thanks for your review. Sorry you had a few issues. I notice the muster on TV and the door. The old days required in person for everyone to put on their life jackets and sit and wait for the in person drills. Somewhat time consuming.
Willwork4cruz - am a carnival uk shareholder so due to my loyalty tier with them, the level was transferrred to Princess. Muster station issue, no tannoy announcements or signage for ours. Muster info on the app but if you're not keen on using it or not IT conversant then it's no good.
Sorry you didn’t have much fun. How did you get tier status being it was your first Princess cruise and you had an inside cabin? The requirements to visit the muster station after boarding is on the app, all those signs, and the load speaker announcements.
Wow. We’ve embarked and disembarked in Southampton a couple times with Princess…very smooth. Sorry it wasn’t that way for you. We love the Sky Princess, and found their meals really good. Glad you found something you liked. Every time we’ve cruised with them , the TV is on when we get to the room and explains all about the muster drill. Guessing the TV wasn’t on. I’m sure any crew members would have told you. Especially your cabin steward.
