Although this is an older ship it is so suited to longer cruising. We chose a budget stateroom with no balcony but in retrospect it was OK. If you choose a stateroom close to the lifts it's a very quick trip up to the lido deck. Noise certainly wasn't an issue for us.
The pools are always popular. Pick your pool and your spot daily...and early. The shore excursions on the Baltic Cruise is a must. These are not "go it alone" destinations.
Our 7th Princess cruise....we have been sailing with Celebrity most recently.....Princess was not quite up to the standards of Celebrity. Lots of cutbacks since we last sailed Princess. Food choices and quality in buffet. Nightly entertainment--a little ho hum--except for last night. Still got those showers with a shower curtain--yuk! Towels not as plush as Celebrity. Casino --no fun at all--might as well just give the $$$ away. Public restrooms....kind of dirty. Elevator....napkin in one corner, plate in another and shore excursion sticker stuck to wall. Not as meticulous about little things as Celebrity. The staff was excellent but wee will be sailing Celebrity and Royal in the future....unless Princess makes some changes because little things count.
Don't be afraid to call housekeeping 1st! Fawcet in the bathroom sink started dripping Someone came within 15 minutes of my call to housekeeping and had it replaced in 10 minutes.
The Sapphire is a lovely ship but be aware that there are no tables for two in the International Restaurant. The ships was full yet there was always room in the main dining areas and on the decks with loungers. One of the swimming pools is covered as though in a conservatory, a real asset on hot or rainy days.
220v hair straightens will not work on board. My big wand hair tongs did, they are 110/220v. If you like a good coffe in your room, take your own. There are laundry rooms on most levels. Free irons and ironing boards there too. Washing machine/dryers cost $3 each paid by your card.
