Two Great Weeks

Sail Date: January 25, 2015

Reviewed: 1 year ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

This was only our 2nd experience with HAL, although my wife and I have sailed over 50 times with various lines. I could find nothing to seriously fault on this trip. We missed Key West due to weather, but the Captain did arrange to stop at Grand Turk. Most of the passengers we met were avid and loyal HAL cruisers. Some did mention that service had deteriorated during recent years. Again, this was not apparent to us having only limited experience with HAL. We did notice that the food in the dinning room was good, but not excellent. In particular, beef and pork cuts seemed tough. We had a veranda cabin and were satisfied. A brand new cruiser would have been extremely happy. An experienced cruiser would have been (and was) pleased.

Ship Quality
This is an older ship, however the Rydam was well maintained.
Food and Dining
Steaks and other meat cuts could have been better.
Cabin / Stateroom
Veranda "suite" normal size or slighlty smaller than anticipated
Service and Staff
Individual staff members make a huge difference. This was/is a great crew.
First time cruisers would have been delighted.
Children's Programs
Did not use or hear about
Onboard Activities
Normal Cruise stuff.
Destinations and Excursions
Ideal stops. Don't miss Aruba.
Tampa, Florida
Key West, Florida
One of our favorites, but missed this time due to high winds
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Something for everyone.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
Always one of our favorites.
St. John's, Antigua
Willemstad, Curacao
Our second favorite on this trip
Oranjestad, Aruba
Best stop of the trip
Falmouth, Jamaica
Stay inside the port/shopping compound or take supervised excursion to other areas.
George Town, Grand Cayman
Nice stop

Look at the in-cabin brochure (last page). The room service (in-cabin) bottle and mixers drink package is a good deal.
