A Lot Different Than Bigger Ships

Sail Date: May 10, 2014

Reviewed: 2 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

We have been used to sailing on Princess and Royal Caribbean.  The first thing you notice is that you don't get your daily workout walking from one end of the ship to the other.  There is only one dining room.  The hours for the Lido buffet are much more limited than the bigger ships.  The coffee bar closes at 10pm which is sort of a bummer.  The shows were excellant.  We liked the DVD player in the room.  It was also nice to have a launderette on the boat.  I was also surprised to see that the other people were mostly in their 60s.  I thought they would be much older. It rained much of the week but we still got to see some great Norwegian sites.

Ship Quality
A bit dated.
Food and Dining
The only negative is their bread. The sliced loaves were dry and the rolls were not really great.
Cabin / Stateroom
We had a bathtub....the first for us on a cruise.
Service and Staff
Really bad bar service for the shows. But otherwise pretty good.
Some great comedians and a fabulous grand finale show.
Children's Programs
We checked it out to see if it would be appropriate for our granchildren. Not many kids on board.
Onboard Activities
Destinations and Excursions
WE didn't use the ship for excursions. We did research ahead to find less expensive options.
Oslo, Norway
There is a lot to see without a tour. Go to the tourist info in town for ideas.
Cruise Oslofjord
Kristiansand, Norway
Stavanger, Norway
We took a boat tour of the fjords.
Ulvik, Norway
Cute town to walk around.
Cruise Hardangerfjord

Be aware of meal time hours especially if you are off the ship and plan to come back for a mid afternoon lunch. We tend to like some quiet time in the room so DVD's were great. They have a pretty large selection on the selection on the ship for free but we brought our own.
