We had previously cruised with Holland America on the Westerdam in Alaska. This was a smaller ship, and though it was quite nice, we like the slightly larger size better. This cruise was unique in that we were in a "Code Red" situation the entire week. This was due to "G.I. Illness" that ended up affecting about 60 of the 1260 passengers. The staff was amazing. They were CONSTANTLY cleaning and santizing. They had a staff member at almost all entry ways to any public place squirting hand sanitizer for everyone, they served all food and drinks, etc. We truly felt they did everything they possibly could to keep us healthy. What didn't help was having sick passengers try to come and eat meals, attend shows, and ride in the same tender boats that the rest of us did. As always, their shows were excellent, the comedian was very funny and we appreciated that it was completely family-friendly. Their food was excellent in the main dining room. I loved the sandwiches that were made to order on the Lido deck. The service from the room stewards to the dining room stewards was impeccible. Our only disappointment was not being able to dock in Costa Maya, due to high winds. We were supposed to visit the ruins there. Though, it was nice to have 2 days at sea before we disembarked in Tampa, because it definitely gave us time to relax in the 79 degree sunshine.

Food and Dining

We love eating in the Rotterdam dining room. The staff was amazing - attentive to all our needs before we knew we had a need. The food and the presentation of the food was always incredible. There were always a great selection of food to try.

We thought the singers and dancers had a great deal of talent. We enjoyed their shows and the costumes they were each evening. The comedian, Lee Bayless, was very funny and he was family-friendly (no swearing or innuendos) - which we appreciated.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Our girls (10 and 12) loved Club HAL. They loved their leaders and wanted to stay at Club HAL instead getting off the boat! Because they wanted to spend so much time there, my husband and I ended up getting lots of time to ourselves, which was a nice and welcome surpirse.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
They were all excellent. We became especially close to our dining room steward and the dining room manager. They were so attentive to our needs and made our family feel very special. They helped make this cruise extra memorable.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This ship is not huge, so even if you are on the top deck at one end, it doesn't take long to walk down to the complete opposite side. The crew did an incredible job keeping the ship sanitized. The ships is older, but the crew does a great job keeping it clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had an outside stateroom with a window. There were 4 of us in it (2 adults, 2 kids) and we felt there was enough room, and enough room to put all our clothes/belongings. The stewards always kept it clean and the beds were very comfortable.

Pros: The food, the friendly service

Cons: Not being able to dock in Costa Maya

Recommends Ryndam? Yes!
