Dream come true cruise

Sail Date: February 15, 2008

Reviewed: 8 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

We wanted to veg and relax on this cruise......and the whole experience was set up for us to do just that. We weren't into the excursions, but that didn't matter because the ship provided one spectacular, late afternoon, slow circling of the Sea of Cortez (along with escorting dolphins).

Unfortunately, our cruise was hit by the Norovirus.....but the captain and the crew were vigilant in their attempts to keep the ship and the passengers healthy...including handcleaner dispensers everywhere. We had a need for medical services in our cabin at 3:00 a.m. one night.....the doctor was there within 6 minutes of our call!!

Pros: The pampering

Cons: the pounds we put on!

Recommends Ryndam? Yes!

Ship Quality
The MS Ryndam beats out the newer ships (it was built in the 90's) for its age when it comes to the feeling of passenger space in public and cabin space. It was comforting to know that we had internet available anytime.
Food and Dining
There was variety in the menus and the portions were perfect. It surprised us that the dining crew anticipated our personal needs without our reminding them....one evening we were delighted by a 20th anniverary cake and congratulations (even though only knew the purpose of our cruise)....A very nice touch!
Cabin / Stateroom
The room and storage was more than ample for two people. We would rush back, change for dinner and leave the place a mess....only to return later to a clean cabin, bathing suits hung up in the bathroom and a different towel 'animal' sitting on our turned down bed to greet us!
Service and Staff
Unlike other cruises, we were never pressured by the crew to give high evaluations relating to their compensation.....on the contrary, they were always friendly, remembered our names and what our interests were (in every area of the ship). Considering how many passengers there were, it really surprised us that they could......but, made us feel very special!
Entertainment
There was always something to do, if you wanted it. Plus, there was a lot of variety in the services, places to be and a high level of quality in what was provided. We were particularly impressed by the coffee specialty bar which opened at 6:30 a.m. and closed around 11:30 p.m. for us caffeine drinkers.
Mazatlan, Mexico
A bustling town.......bus service available from the ship into town.
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
If you are into parasailing, this would be the place.....otherwise, the port is a tourist trap and there isn't enough time allocated to allow for much time to take a bus into town.
Topolobampo, Mexico
The ship ties up in a desolate area....unless you take the 30-minute bus into town the only event off the ship is the long train trip into and out of the canyon...which we hear was dissapointing for the time and cost.
Don't Miss: The onboard native dance show by the local children.....they did a wonderful job and the colors and costumes were great!
Loreto, Mexico
A lovely little place .... ideal for walking around and getting to know the local culture.
Don't Miss: Walking the back streets and poking around the little stores and cantinas
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
It was nice to know that you could take the local bus into and out of town for 50 cents (one way)..this port was charming, even though it's going through a growth spurt....friendly, kind people and lots to see (especially if you are into historical sites).
Don't Miss: Walking the back streets and popping into all the little stores......for those who are into smoking cigars, there's cuban cigars available!
La Paz, Mexico
The biggest secret of this cruise was this wonderful little port .... the restaurants, shops and 'kick-back' atmosphere was not to be missed. We only wish the ship had spent more time here.
