BEAUTIFUL and VERY RELAXING!

Sail Date: July 01, 2007

Reviewed: 9 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

We went on this cruise over 4th of July, and not only was Alaska beautiful, but days at sea were very relaxing (we usually go-go-go nonstop on trips so forced relaxation was nice). Caliber of other cruisers was also very high and we enjoyed our dinner companions and had very pleasant meal conversation. While the demographics were a bit older than us (we are 36/37) but didn't mind as our goal was to see the beauty of Alaska/Canada, not imbibe in the party scene. Great time overall....

Pros: Scenery, Shore Excursions, NO CELL RECEPTION! =)

Cons: Incremental costs while on board ADD UP - Shouldn't have to pay extra $$ for Sodas!

Recommends Ryndam? Yes!

Entertainment
Not our style and a bit vanilla- but that is what you get when they have to be Rated G and attempt to cater to everyone. But the sun stays up until midnight so we whale watched and enjoyed the scenery at night as opposed to sitting inthe theater, anyway.
Ship Quality
Well maintained, nice opverall. LOVED the Library/ Exploration Room on sea days - TONS to keep you busy.
Food and Dining
Only complaint is meal times were a bit more rigid than other ships we have been on. Breakfast ended at 10:30 and then you had to wait until 11:30 for hot lunch. Same with dinner, no hot meals after 9:00, even in the buffet.
Cabin / Stateroom
Large, comfortable, well apportioned.
Service and Staff
Excelelnt cabin and dinner stewards - attention to customers is clearly a high priority.
Juneau, Alaska
Great town, went to the Glacier but by that time had seen many. Very beautiful and more to do, but also touristy. The float planes are great!
Don't Miss: Take a float plane tour.
Ketchikan, Alaska
Saw the Lumberjack show just to say we did it - a bit campy/corny but it was only an hour. Crab at the local restaurants is GREAT!
Don't Miss: Creek street and tram ride up to Cape Fox Lodge
Haines, Alaska
EAGLES! We did the float trip and loved it. Also go to see the 4th of July parade by the locals, went to the Eagle Foundation museum and tasted locally-brewed Spruce Tip beer for the first time -- excellent! :)
Don't Miss: Eagle Float
