They could have done better

Our 10 day cruise was shortened by two days due to eccessive GI illness during the previous cruise. We arrived in San Diego the day before departure and had a room waiting. I checked email and home phone messages and found both H.A.L. and my travel agent had tried contacting us. The email from H.A.L. said our cruise would start two days later than the booked date. They would refund $100 per person per day for the two days and it would appear on our credit card OR we could take advantage of their arranged lodging at a hotel OUTSIDE San Diego. We heard later these poor people were bussed hours away to ANAHIEM!!! Lodging was paid, but the had to pay for their own food. Two of the three ports we hadn't ever seen and were the reason we signed on for the cruise were dropped. True, we could have canceled and got our money back, but we had driven 350 miles to SD and decided to go. The cruise itself wasn't bad at all, but H.A.L. Admin decided to post our refund amount to our Onboard Account rather than our credit card. USE IT OR LOSE IT! This was done in spite of the email to the contrary. Jennifer at the ship's front desk told us was recieved both credit to on-board account AND our credit card. Oops! WRONG! DON'T TRUST ANYTHING H.A.L. TELLS YOU VERBALLY--GET IT IN PRINT!

Pros: Food and on board service people were outstanding

Cons: lies and confusion from HAL
